Make your own Marzipan

Day 8 of my Christmas countdown, as promised yesterday in my Late Christmas Cake recipetoday’s recipe is for home made Marzipan.

Although I personally do not favour a traditional Christmas Cake, preferring something lighter & less sugary, I know, for a lot of people, Christmas would not be complete without one. The cake in yesterdays recipe is a variation on the good old traditional theme. Today’s marzipan recipe is prepared using fresh natural ingredients & also makes you aware of the additives & preservatives used in most store bought Marzipan or Almond paste, as it is also known.

Part One – Welcome.

Posting on Instagram one dull January day I came across a post for The Camelot Castle Hotel, Tintagel. Now, Cornwall with its mystic legends & wild landscape has always held a fascination for me & this Neo-Norman Style hotel, standing in a prominent clifftop location, the Atlantic Ocean crashing far below, conjured up visions of Manderly. Ok, a Tudor Manor it wasn’t, but it would certainly do for me. Having booked a special three night stay with furry friend (an added plus) I took a quick look on TripAdvisor for reviews, as expected they were mixed. The idea for this blog was born and the following review relates to my personal view of The Camelot Castle Hotel. An experience of pure joy & pleasure.

Hi again Foodies. Does your fruit bowl often look like this?  Mangy looking bananas that no-one wants, or the half mouldy furry apples. What are you going to do with them? Throw them in the bin adding to the mountain of food we waste each year or make them into a delicious high fibre pud, which will have your family begging for more.

The recipe below is of my own creation, which I served in my cake shop last week. Served warm, straight from the oven topped with a scoop of my homemade rich custard Gelato it had the customers drooling & begging for the recipe.
